Well, I would be posting today if my computer hadn't taken a complete nose dive and I now have to back up a bunch of audio files. Of course, this is work I should have done a few weeks ago, but there is nothing like catastrophe as motivation. Tonight there is going to be the !!! show for halloween. I am very excited.

Just to let you know: I have now reached new levels of work boredom and downloaded AOL Instant messenger.

You can chat with me all you like at JRseventyone. Wow. A new era.

There has been alot of talk lately about my beard. Well, it's mostly been me who's been talking about it, but what is that amongst friends and blog readers, eh? The reason that the funky facial hair has been on everyone's lips (esp. mine) is that it is the first fashion decision I've made in a long time where the reaction was overwhelmingly postive. It seemed for the longest time that I would try something new and everyone would go "Eh...". Certainly alot of this was my fault (Remember my "I'm going to imbue myself with my a personal scent" idea? Whoops!)but it was finally nice to get a "Oh, Josh, I really like the beard." So, I've kept it and even trimmed it, which I swore I'd never do.

In other news, Halloween is tomorrow and I have committed to go as a baby. I think this is hilarious, but I wish someone else were doing it. I am not relishing the idea of hanging out in a bonnet with adult diapers on all night. I need some kind of pink kids shirt that says "Here Comes Trouble" or something.

To any NY people who read this the party is here:

A few good headlines today:

Millionaire says he doesn't recall cutting up friend

I would hopefully not recall that either.

Another favorite of mine:

Pet alligator gets loose aboard airliner

Unfortunately, this one is not as exciting as it sounds. The alligator got loose in the cargo hold, not in the cabin. Imagine an alligator loose in the cabin! Wow.

Just what the hell is it with Russians and getting trapped? They seem like they are getting trapped in some unbelievably shitty situation every other day. First the Kursk and now this. God bless the USA.

I must say that "Strong solar flare may impact Earth today"is one hell of a headline. It was most definitely the first thing I looked at on CNN.com. How could you not? Wouldn't you want to know if a big old fiery flare was about to decimate you and yours? Unfortunately, Peru is not about to be burned from the face of the earth. No, we just might have some problems with our cell phones and maybe the power grids. BOOOOOOOOOORING.

HEADLINE UPDATE: This one is way better!

How can David Gest go on being so freaky?

Wednesday, October 22, 2003

This week Dilbert has 6 different comic strip artists other than Scott Adams doing one day apiece. So far the other artists have been Darby Conley of Get Fuzzy (which has gotten a little more tolerable, but I still think is basically a bad Bloom County rip off), then Lynn Johnson of For Better or For Worse(which I actually really like and don't snicker) and today it's Pat Brady who does Rose is Rose.(um, not a fan, but I read it. John likes the art. I can't take the fact that every comic strip has weird suns and smiling rainbows in it).

I am always pleased to see the comics page do the switiching off thing. A huge amount of artists did it three or four years ago for april fool's day and it was intriguing to see the different styles take on charachers that you were so familiar with. I'm trying to find the documentation on the web, but the links are all dead as far as I can tell. More research soon.

The week in comics: Luann is heating up. And the heat is being generated by Brad and his new crush Toni. This is the first time in my memory that Luann has focused so much on Brad and a storyline with him in the center. The Toni/Brad storyline has been going on for a long time mainly concerning A: Brad's trying to work up the courage to ask her on a date and then B: Brad's reaction to finding out Toni has a boyfriend, Dirk, and that Dirk is a royal dickhead. To make a long comic strip story arc short, Dirk is very possesive and rude. Brad talks alot of trash on Dirk. Toni is upset by this. Weeks pass. Dirk forgets to pick up Toni one night from school. Brad gives Toni a ride home. Dirk comes by, gets jealous and tries to threaten Brad. Brad intiates car chase. Dirk crashes car. Brad revives Dirk with CPR. Holy crap, right? So Dirk is in the hospital and now we see that despite initial PO'edness in the Toni camp, she is now starting to like Brad in that way, if you catch my meaning.

Last night at the Pretty Girls Make Graves show my friend Helena came up and chided me for not updating this more often and said she looked at it everyday. So, with that in mind, I'm going to try and do better. PGMG were good, although their new promo poster is pretty funny.

UPDATE ON S. I. FERRY POST:

I don't think Bloomberg went to the funerals. Not, at least, the ones I read about.

Thursday, October 16, 2003

There was a terrible accident on the Staten Island Ferry yesterday where 10 people were killed and more injured, some having severed limbs. The papers mentioned that Mayor Bloomberg had to leave the Yankees game to rush to the scene. Now all this makes me wonder with my morbid state of mind: Exactly how many funerals does the mayor go to during his term? I am sure he went to the one for the murdered councilman, but then he is also sure to go to some for the people that died on the ferry as well as other's who have died in NY tragedies. So, is it like once a month? Once every few months? It seems like there are notable deaths all the time that would cry out for funeral attending. I should try to figure this out.

This is a surprise?

No shit he's mad! I would be too. I think the weirdest part of this article is the end where they mention that they gave the boy a fake Manchester United tattoo on one of his prosthetic arms. That's nice I suppose, but talk about a real booby prize.

I've been neglecting my public. For this I apologize. Let's recap what has been going on in the world.

Arnold...What more can you say? I don't watch alot of television(this is only because it is broken and not out of any high falutin' "I don't watch TV blah blah blah" bullshit.) but I had forgotten that Maria Shriver even existed except as the consort of the Shwarz. She looks like she's had plastic surgery, although I must admit after seeing this site, I think everyone has. It's like learning a new word. I just look for plastic surgery everywhere.

Does anyone else think that it's funny beyond mortal comprehension that Arnold rides around on a bus named "Predator"? Oops.

I am still not winning at scrabble. By my reckoning Shara and I have played over 100 games and I have lost every single one. I've got to get the eye of the tiger and win one of these finally.

Weird links is gone. This is pretty depressing. Weird links was one of my favorite websites and the guy really did have all sorts of bizarre stuff on there. Plus the site was enormous. Unfortunately, the guy who put the site together was beind stalked by someone and so decided to discontinue his web presence. Very dissapointing. However, if you are into crazy links the way that I am (raise your hand if you're a geek) you can always look here.
